How to Measure for Curtains

The first step is to decide whether you want your curtains to hang from a track or pole, both of which should be ideally positioned 15cm above the window and extend 15-20cm either side.

For a curtain track:

1.Measure its full length end to end.

2. Before  you measure drop, decide whether you want your curtains to fall to the sill, below the sill or to the floor. We suggest that:

A. Floor length curtains typically finish 1-2cm  from the floor but if your floor is slightly uneven we recommend to finish 5cm from the floor. If the floor is very uneven we  recommend that curtains rest on the floor by at least 2cm to help disguise this. Whereas puddled curtains trail on the floor by 10-15cm gives a luxuriant feel to any room.

B. Curtains that fall below the sill finish 15cm below, or just above any radiator.

C. Sill length curtains finish 1cm above the sill.

Measure the drop from the top of the track so that the curtains hide the track.

For a curtain pole

1.  Measure the pole length, not including the finals (the decorative pieces on the ends).

2. Before  you measure drop, decide whether you want your curtains to fall to the sill, below the sill or to the floor. We suggest that:

Measure from the top of the track to your chosen end pont:

- sill length

- below the sill

-floor length

Based on the measurements you give us, we can work out how much fabric is required and the cost involved.

Measure from the eye of the curtain ring  to your chosen end point:

How to measure for Roman blinds

First decide where you want the blind to hang, this can be either inside the recess or outside of the recess. Now check there are no obstructions inside or outside the window recess where the blind will hang, for example look out for handles, part tiling, or windows that open inwards. If you need advice, call us or even send us a photo.

Inside Recess Measurement

Make sure the recess is at least 7.5cm deep, otherwise it will not be able to accommodate the operating mechanism.

Step 1: Measure the width of your recess at three locations. The top, middle and bottom. Record the smallest measurement.

Step 2: Measure the drop of your recess at three locations. The left, middle and right. Record the smallest measurement.

Please note we will substract 1cm to your width dimension to provide clearance.

Outside Recess Measurement

Decide how far you want the fabric to overlap the wall.

Step 1:Measure the outside of your window recess from one side to another from the point you want. We recommend that overlap should be at least 7cm from each side so as to minimise as much external light as possible.

Step 2: Measure the outside of your window recess from the top to the bottom, from the height at which you want the cassette system to sit. It should be positioned at least 7cm above the window, down to the point you want the bottom bar to stop.

Warning

Young children can be strangled by the loops in pull cords, chains, tapes and inner cords that operate this product. To avoid strangulation and entanglement, keep cords and chains out of  reach of young children. Cords may become wrapped around a child’s neck. Move cots and furniture away from window covering cords. Do not tie cords together. Make sure cords do not twist and create a loop.
